To ensure the success of your soft tooling and prototype molds, we recommend the following:

  • Recommended thickness for most plastic parts is 0.060 to 0.135.

  • To avoid sink, make all ribs and bosses 70 percent of wall thickness.

  • Avoid shape corners to lower the risk of cracking. We recommend 0.062 or larger.

  • Avoid thick areas to minimize the risk of sink and warpage on your prototype mold.

  • All plastic prototype molds need draft. Most will only need ½ to 1° of draft, but the part finish will need texture, please call so we can help you determine the right amount of draft for the outside of the part.
